According to the Vancouver Sun, 65+ year olds are increasing in frequency in the workplace. Over the last decade, there has been a 11.5% jump in the number of older workers, while younger workers are on the decline. What does this mean in the long run? #1, there will have to be a significant increase in care and safety of workers of this cohort, protecting them against injuries. #2, by the time this population is ready to retire, there will be a huge labour shortage in Canada.
The good news? People in this population are healthier than ever and provide lots of wisdom and experience, something that will greatly impact quality of work and production. We just need to make sure that we keep them that way as long as we can.
